The ISU Crops Team is looking for a field agronomist to serve the south-central part of Iowa. Below is a brief outline of who we work with and a quick overview of what the job would entail. 

The ISU Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist work with:

  • Farmers
  • ISU Extension and Outreach county staff
  • Fertilizer and ag chemical dealers 
  • ISU Research and Demonstration Farm staff (this position would work closest with the ISU McNay Research Farm near Chariton)
  • Seed and crop protection industry representatives
  • USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service personnel

Wintertime activities include the planning, development and the presentation of crop related topics at the following programs:

  • Crop Advantage Series
  • Private and commercial pesticide applicator recertification
  • Soil fertility workshops
  • ISU Research and Demonstration Farm Annual Meetings
  • Social media 

Summertime programs include the following:

  • Field visits to provide third party analysis of crop problems
  • Meetings to respond to hail damage, late planting and dry weather
  • ISU Research and Demonstration Farm field days
  • Research and demonstration work at ISU Research and Demonstration Farms
  • The use of newsletter, social media and the ISU Crop Blog to correspond with clientele about current crop conditions
