June 8 Crop and Weather Report

June 9, 2009

By Doug Cooper, Extension Communications

Weather with Iowa State University Extension climatologist Elwynn Taylor and crop issues as discussed by integrated pest management specialist Rich Pope and corn agronomist Roger Elmore are included in this week's report.

Taylor calls Iowa weather patterns a variation of the Goldilocks syndrome; some are too wet, some are too dry, while others are just right.

Pope reports black cutworms are in some corn fields, but not at significant levels. However, producers should continue to scout for damage.
