Acquiring Machinery and Machinery Services Workshop March 2

Extension will offer Acquiring Machinery and Machinery Services on March 2 for producers evaluating farm machinery options. The workshop will discuss owning, leasing and renting farm equipment, and strategies for sharing machinery and labor in farming operations.

The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 2 at the Letts Community Center, 125 Iowa Street, Letts, Iowa. Registration for the workshop closes Feb. 25 and the fee is $15. Register by contacting the ISU Extension Louisa County Office at 319-523-2371 or

The workshop is designed to help producers evaluate alternatives for machinery acquisition and use. The financial aspects of ownership, leasing and machinery sharing arrangements will be explored.

William Edwards, along with Georgeanne Artz, assistant professor of agricultural economics, and James Jensen, ISU Extension farm management program specialist, will cover machinery acquisition options, labor and machinery sharing arrangements, role of traits and skills, and operational and organization considerations.

Producers looking for ways to meet production capacity needs and keep costs low will find options for them to investigate at the workshop.

Workshop participants will receive Farm Machinery and Labor Sharing Manual, a MidWest Plan Service publication, as part of the program.
