Episode 107. Interseeding sudangrass into perennials pasture

Overgrazed areas used as sacrifice paddocks in the spring are prone to erosion and are limited in yield production. A three year study evaluated interseeding sudangrass into these overgrazed paddocks on three cooperator farms across Iowa to see if a yield boost would be realized while reducing erosion risk. Plots were seeded at two seeding rates and evaluated for forage yield, composition and quality, and changes in select soil characteristics were measured over the three years.
