Southeast Research Farm Fall Field Day Set for Sept. 8

Mark you your calendars for the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm's Fall Field Day, which is set for September 8. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. with the tour starting at 1:30 p.m. 

The featured stops for this year's field day include a presentation on UAVs with a demonstration and discussion on the basics of imagery, farm pond management, and a closer look at the ISU yield forecasting tool, FACTS.

Featured presenters at the field day are:

  • Greg Brenneman, ISU Extension Ag Engineering Specialist
  • Ryan Bergman, Program Coordinator II in Ag and Biosystems Engineering 
  • Allen Pattillo, ISU Extension Fisheries and Aquaculture Specialist 
  • Sotirios Archontoulis, ISU Extension Cropping Systems Specialist 

Check out the Fall Field Day flier for additional details. The field day is free and open to the public. Certified Crop Advisor Continuing Education Units will be available, contingent upon approval. 

To reach the farm, follow U.S. Highway 218 one and three quarters miles south of Crawfordsville, then two miles east on county road G-62, then three quarters mile north. Signs will be posted to guide you to the event. Click here to bring up a Google map of the farm.

Virgil Schmitt has been in his current position since 1992, although counties he's covered have changed over time. He's worked as an extension 4-H and youth leader in Butler and Grundy Counties and as an extension agriculturist in Linn County, Iowa. He taught high school agricultural education in Reinbeck, Iowa and community college agriculture at Muscatine Community College. Schmitt is an eastern Iowa native, where he lives and manages his home farming operation. He earned an M.S. degree in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University.

Rebecca Vittetoe
  • Field Agronomist in EC/SE Iowa
Rebecca Vittetoe works with farmers, landowners, and ag retailers to answer agronmy-related questions. Her areas of expertise include general agronomy, crop diseases, corn, soybean, and forage management, cover crops, integrated pest management, and crop scouting. Vittetoe received her B.S. in agronomy along with a journalism and mass communications minor from Iowa State University in 2014. She earn her M.S. in agronomy from Iowa State University in 2019.

  • Field Agronomist in Central Iowa
Meaghan Anderson is a field agronomist in central Iowa and an extension specialist at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Areas of expertise include weed management, weed biology, cover crops, corn and soybean management, and integrated pest management.
