AgOvation

Registration for the 2020 AgOvation program will open on Jan 1. For more information, contact Maya Hayslett, hayslett@iastate.edu. Youth should contact their local county extension office if they are interested in participating. What is AgOvation? AgOvation is a research-based competition that challenges youth to explore and develop innovative science-based solutions to agricultural problems that they identify in their own communities.

IPM4Bees Field Day

With funding from the North Central IPM Center, the IPM4Bees Midwest Working Group is meeting for the first time, bringing together bee researchers, extension agents, graduate students, and other stakeholders to discuss IPM challenges faced across the region. The primary goal of the working group is to foster communication and collaboration in the Midwest over both agricultural and apicultural IPM strategies that impact honey bee and native bee health.

Dr. Laura Jesse Iles, director of the Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic, discusses three types of social wasps found in Iowa. She discusses some of their habits and some of the differences found between paper wasps and european paper wasps and manages to get quite close to a nest!
