Farmers should consider soybean aphids a potential pest for 2013. A recently updated Iowa State University publication, Soybean aphid-resistant varities for Iowa, will assist farmers in adopting new management techniques, possibly reducing their need for a foliar insecticide.

Bees are susceptible to many broad spectrum insecticides, but how are they getting exposed to a chemistry largely used for seed treatments? Christian Krupke, a field crops entomologist at Purdue University, and several others took a closer look at how honey bees might be interacting with neonicotinoids. Common examples of neonicotinoids include: clothianidin (Poncho r), thiamethoxam (Cruiser r), and imidacloprid (Gaucho r).

Commercial Pesticide Applicator Test Help Session

All commercial pesticide applicators must take exams in order to become initially certified and some choose to become re-certified by exam rather than by attending continuing instructional courses. With the increased interest in applying fungicides on corn and soybeans many commercial applicators are considering adding agricultural diseases (category 1C) to their certification.
