The FieldWatch® registry provides easy-to-use, accurate, and secure online tools to enhance communications and awareness between crop producers, beekeepers, and pesticide applicators. FieldWatch® features a voluntary mapping tool through Google Maps™ that shows pesticide applicators the locations of registered sensitive crops and beehives so they can make informed decisions regarding pesticide applications.

The Crop Protection Network (CPN) has produced a new web book called Fungicide Use in Field Crops. Fungicides are an important crop protection tool for modern agriculture, and proper use decreases risk of fungal diseases and economic losses. This book highlights the importance of fungicides for yield protection, while considering economics, risks to humans and the environment, and prolonging use of fungicide modes of action.

Southeast Iowa Ag Exploration Day

WASHINGTON, Iowa – Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach hosted an Ag Exploration Day for area high school students on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Southeast Research Farm near Crawfordsville. This was the first year for Ag Exploration day at the farm, and 130 area high school students from nine schools participated in the event.

Double check labels, scout weed size for maximum weed control

Check weed sizes vs. herbicide rates so you can maximize herbicide effectiveness. I am getting calls on some pretty sizeable weeds in fields, especially ragweed and waterhemp. Some of the ragweed (and marestail in some no-till and min-till fields) is already beyond being able to consistently knock it down, so I’m pretty reluctant to advise any exotic tank mixtures in an attempt to control them now.
