AgOvation

Registration for the 2020 AgOvation program will open on Jan 1. For more information, contact Maya Hayslett, hayslett@iastate.edu. Youth should contact their local county extension office if they are interested in participating. What is AgOvation? AgOvation is a research-based competition that challenges youth to explore and develop innovative science-based solutions to agricultural problems that they identify in their own communities.

CALS Graduate Student Field Day

The CALS Graduate Student Field Day, put on by graduate students enrolled in the Experiences in Plant Science Extension and Outreach course, was a collaborative effort to inform attendees about the impacts of Iowa's extreme weather on the 2019 field season. Plant foliar and root diseases, and insect pests were some of the main highlights, as well as the discussion of integrated management to improve practices and prevent these diseases and pests from taking hold in future years.

ISU Soybean Breeders Share Research with Students

Iowa State University AGRON279 class visited the ISU Soybean Breeding program and participated in hands-on learning and breeding games. Regional Crop Scouting Competition

AMES, Iowa –The top two teams of youth from Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana state crop scouting competitions competed in the Regional Crop Scouting Competition on Aug. 31 in Boone, Iowa. Both Iowa teams, Clayton County and Kuhlmann Seed, placed first and second at the regional competition. Individual team members took a written test before heading out to field stations located throughout the Field Extension Education Lab.
