The 2021 Virtual Crop Scout School is now available and is free to the general public. The scout school consists of 22 webinars from crop protection specialists at eleven Midwest Universities and is offered through the Crop Protection Network (CPN).

Several Crop Protection Network (CPN) webinars are scheduled for this spring. Some of the best minds in agriculture will talk about ways to keep soybeans healthy.

Martin Chilvers, Michigan State University associate professor of plant pathology; Carl Bradley, University of Kentucky extension professor of plant pathology; and Trey Price, LSU AgCenter associate professor of plant pathology will give talks in February, March and April.

Soybean Gall Midge Brown Bag Series

Soybean gall midge is an emerging pest that only occurs in five Midwest states. Researchers in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota began investigating this pest in 2019 after widespread reports of significant injury raised awareness early in the 2018 growing season. Although a lot of research is needed to enhance our understanding of soybean gall midge biology, ecology, and management, researchers are able to provide updates and tips for the upcoming growing season.

ISU Extension and Outreach and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences recently hosted a “five-stop” virtual field day series. This series featured a greeting by Dean Dan Robison, an administrative update on the farms, and four consecutive days featuring water quality research, fungicide trials, a long-term tillage trial and phosphorous and potassium placement trials for crop production.

Extension specialists in Iowa and Minnesota are again collaborating to provide a series of short webinars for farmers, ag professionals, Extension personnel and other interested parties from July 14 to July 23. The theme is “Essential Row Crop Management" for summer 2020, with a focus on key pest management topics that we may be finding in fields currently.

Each webinar will start at 1:00 p.m. with a 10 to 15 minute discussion followed by time for questions and answers. Sessions will be limited to 30 minutes.
