Transcript or Alternate URL:

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialists served as judges at each of the eight field stations. Field stations included insects, weeds, diseases, abiotic injury, pesticide use and sprayer calibration, as well as growth stages and crop morphology. Specialists tested each team's knowledge on the topic at hand, but also took the time to talk with the youth and answer questions. There was also a written test given to evaluate student’s knowledge about common IPM practices to ensure individual team member mastery. The goal of this competition was to both test and increase student’s knowledge in the areas of weeds, insects and disease identification, as well demonstrate the many careers available in agriculture.
