About the Facility

Since 1987, the Field Extension Education Laboratory in Boone, Iowa has been dedicated to providing a hands-on learning experience for crop production professionals. During summer, the facility is used by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach as a teaching and demonstration facility, using the facility's demonstration plots to show a wide range of management problems, solutions, and diagnostic challenges. It has air-conditioned classrooms that complement the plot tours, all of which are within walking distance. Facility amenities include air-conditioned classrooms, Wi-Fi, parking, and field plots within walking distance of the main building.

Each of the instructors at the field lab is a subject-matter specialist familiar with crops, soils, or pest issues throughout Iowa. The Field Extension Education Laboratory provides participants the opportunity to sharpen scouting and diagnostic skills with hands-on learning and evaluate management strategies with one-on-one discussions with instructors. Agribusinesses and industry can also rent the Field Extension Education Laboratory for company functions such as professional development and training. See below for more information.
