After a week of below normal and pleasant fall temperatures, the summer heat is making a reappearance. Widespread high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s are forecast across the state. Heat index values are expected to reach the low to mid-90s on Friday through Sunday. The weekend is also expected to be dry, with chances for rain returning late Sunday into Monday. This dry air helps to keep heat indices lower compared to previous heat events this summer.
This GIF shows the risk of heat-related impacts. There is moderate to major risk on Friday through Sunday.

Agricultural Impacts
High heat, low humidity, and little precipitation are the perfect ingredients for rapid vegetation drying. In many areas, corn is looking extra crispy, largely due to widespread accounts of southern rust, leading to sped up maturity, rapid drying, and weak stalks. These dry and hot conditions can cause very quick turning of soybeans as well.
Utilize early mornings or evenings to get out in the field and check on crop moisture conditions. Harvest may have come or be arriving sooner than expected.
